DCLP Open House Discussion: Dinàgà Wek'èhodì North Arm Protected Area

On November 17, 2016, the Tłįchǫ Government Department of Culture and Lands Protection opened its doors to welcome Behchokǫ̀ community members who were interested in the discussion about the proposed Dinàgà Wek'èhodì North Arm Protected Area. The Tłįchǫ Government and Government of the Northwest Territories are collaborating on the establishment of Dinàgà Wek'èhodì using territorial legislation. Staff from both governments facilitated the Open House, asking about what activities happen on the land today, seeking opinions about desirable and undesirable activities on the North Arm of Great Slave Lake. Visitors were welcomed with łèt’è (fried bannock) and rice pudding as they flipped through photographs of boat trips to K'ıchıì (Whitebeach Point) and Nįhshìì (Old Fort Rae). While sipping coffee or tea, they told stories about time spent on the land and travelling by boat, skidoo or dog team. Information gathered from this Open House, and all other community engagement activities, will inform the future establishment and management of Dinàgà Wek'èhodì.A Presentation about Dinàgà Wek'èhodì will take place on Thursday, November 24, 2016 12-1 p.m. at the Behchokǫ̀ Culture Centre. For more information contact:Jessica HumLand Use PlannerDepartment of Culture and Lands ProtectionTłı̨chǫ Ndek'àowo / Tłı̨chǫ GovernmentPhone: 867-392-6381 Ext 1356jessicahum@tlicho.comtlicho.ca/government/departments/culture-lands-protection/lands-protection/dinaga-wekehodi
